Detroit Auto Show 2011 - Porsche 918 RSR Coupe First Live Pictures and Specs

Detroit Auto Show 2011 -  Porsche 918 RSR Coupe

After several years of absence Porsche returned to the Detroit Auto Show with a sportsman 918 RSR Coupe. The Germans had promised "a spectacular model" and certainly kept their promise.

Porsche 918 RSR Coupe combines forms submitted last year and 918 Spyder technology supersportista 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

Presented a few hours before the Detroit car is part of the "Porsche Intelligent Performance" (Intelligent efficiency) and uses a hybrid system of F1 cars of Williams, combining a powerful petrol engine and two electric motors.

Hybrid system differs from the commonly used nowadays. It needs no batteries, uses a flywheel positioned at the passenger seat. He "collects" kinetic energy during braking, and can be rotated by 36 000 rpm.

By pressing a button is supplied power from 204 hp for about 6-8 seconds, which is transmitted to the motors driving the front wheels.

These engines assist in positioning the rear gasoline engine with 563 hp power at 10 300 rpm, which drives the rear wheels. By Porsche has not yet reported details on this engine, but we can be almost sure that it is a V8 engine with 3.4 liters volume, known from the 918 Spyder.

The total power of the Porsche 918 RSR Coupe reaches 767 horsepower, but currently does not mention any dynamic parameters.
